“The Etruscan smile”, by José Luis Sampedro
In this book an old and rude peasant man, who lives in the South of Italy arrives in Milan, in the North of Italy, for a doctor’s check up on his disease. During the trip, his son and himself stop in Rome and visit a museum, where they see an Etruscan sarcophagus, with an image of a couple who has a mysterious smile. There in Milan, the old man lives with his son, his daughter in law and his just born grandson, to whom he can give his tenderness, although he was a tough man. He also lives his last big passion, the love of an incredible woman. It can be ready by anybody over 13. This is a moving book for those who have grandfathers who have lived in the countryside and don’t find easy adapting to the city. Grandparents who tell us stories with a big vital force. In this book we can see the contrast between the countryside and the big city. The plot is written in a style that makes feelings surface due to the relationship between Salvatore, his grandson, Bruno, and Hortensia, until his last breath of life. This book leaves us good and fond memories, and when you finish the story, I am sure you will close the book with a mysterious smile. It is a pity there is not an English translation. You can find it in French, Greek, Portuguese, Italian, German, Russian and Polish languages. Mª Carmen Menchen

YOU MUST READ…“CABALLO DE TROYA” by Juan José Benítez
It isn’t my favourite book but I like it very much. This literary book has eight books published and they narrate Jesus of Nazaret’s life. An old USAF member contacts a Spanish investigator and he puts him a lot of tests and quizzes to find a manuscript who speaks about a misterious travel across time to know the life of Jesus de Nazareth. This writing is a piece of a big project called “Caballo de Troya”. This project is about a time machine who is designed to travel across time. It goes at the moment of the Nazarene’s life and… I can’t say any more. If you read it you will know the rest of the story… Sonia
I recommend this book "like water for chocolate",because it is a romantic story where he boy who the main actress loves marries her sister. The main actress can´t marry ,because her mother says that she has to look after her ,until she dies. The boy is in love with Maria although he marries sister.Maria and her brother-in -law meet in secret, until one day they meet in a house and they burn from pleasme and they die.
I like this book, because the couple lives a sincere love story until the last day that they are together. Luna Arroyo
I recommend a spanish book called "Piedra y Cal". The book is about a little town and the people who live there. The main character, who by the way reminds me to the Celestine, is an old spinter who tangle the people up and make them vulnerable and unhappy.I liked the book because it is a reflection of life in small areas and the reader can understand easily the author´s idea. The writer tells us the typical gossips which are running in the town, the mayority of them are made up for this cruel woman who play the role of a victim. The writer is Antonia Rodriguez and she is from Pozoblanco. The funny thing about this book is that when I was reading I could identify the characters in the book with some people in my town. “Love in the Time of Cholera” of Gabriel Garcia Márquez

Florentino during his life meets their clandestine love with different women but his only purpose is to make Fermina be with him so he waits patiently for more than 50 years.Gabriel Garcia Márquez immortalizes the mechanisms of love in the landscape of the Caribben. I like this novel because it is a beautiful and exciting love’s story. JUAN

My favourite book is “written in the waves” by Torcuato Luca de Tena.
This is the story of a Young and rich man (German). He leaves Galicia because his father marries his girlfriend. He travels to Florida and there he begins a new life. He Works so hard that in the future he will make a fortune. Throughout there years he falls in love with three different women. This may be normal but they are mother, daughther and granddaughter in this order, from the same family.
In my opinión it is the best book ever written, because it says that we must work hard to become someone, and that every decisión has a consequence.German (the main character) said at one point in the book “Is the man a toy of destiny or is he who weaves slowly with their successes or failures?”.
The last edition was publised in 1984, it’s a pity. We can only read it in the library. I love re-reading it.
Thank you guys for the wonderful job ( you will be forever in my heart). Keep up with the good work!!!!
